BRIGHT STAR - April 11-14

Direct from Broadway, York Drama is thrilled to bring you Bright Star, by Grammy, Emmy, and Academy Award winning Steve Martin and Eddie Brickell. “To say we were excited to receive the rights to this incredible musical is an understatement”, says York’s Drama Director, Rebecca Marianetti. York Drama is one of the first programs in the country to be granted the rights to Bright Star.  “The story you will watch unfold, which is based on true events, is the reason we need theatre; to examine what is truly important in life, and to experience, joy, sorrow, and love.”

This sweeping tale of love and redemption, based on true events, and set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and ‘40s unfolds as a rich tapestry of deep emotion, beautiful melodies and powerfully moving performances.

Named the New York Times Critic’s Pick and nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Bright Star promises to make you smile, laugh, and bring you to tears while shouting for joy that the “Sun is going to shine again”. “Bright Star has the heart that we long for and the message that we all need” smiles Marianetti. “It is a story that needs to be told. Bright Star is about hope; and without hope, we are lost. This is a special musical and a special group of young men and women (over 80 in the cast, crew, and orchestra)  who have poured themselves into bringing hope and love to the stage, and to the Elmhurst Community.”

Tickets go on sale April 1 at 6am, at TicketPeak/YorkDrama. All tickets are $10. Show times are Thursday, April 11, Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13 at 7:30PM and Sunday, April 14 at 2:00. Recommended for ages 10 and up.

York Drama 2018-2019 Theatre Season!

October 25 - 28 | Peter and the Starcatcher

This Fall, York High School will be presenting Peter And the Starcatcher on October 25th through October 28th.  Peter And The Starcatcher upends the century-old story of how an orphan comes to be The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up. A wildly theatrical adaptation of Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson’s best-selling novels, Peter and the Starcatcher playfully explores the depths of greed and despair... and the bonds of friendship, duty and love.  Tickets will cost $10 (free for York High School students with an ID) and sales will open to the general public on October 12th.

January 31 - February 3 | Much Ado About Nothing

For our Winter Show, we will be presenting one of Shakespeare’s funniest romantic comedies, Much Ado About Nothing.   When the boys come marching home from the battlefield this winter, all the women will swoon.  Almost all the women.  Beatrice is just fine without a man, thank you. In fact, she’s more than a match for the confirmed bachelor Benedick in Shakespeare’s battle of wits, Much Ado About Nothing.  Intrigue, farce and verbal sparring lay the foundation for another of Shakespeare’s great inventions, the modern Rom-Com.  Show dates are Jan 31st through February 3rd.  Tickets for these shows will be available in early January.

April 11-14 | Bright Star

York Drama will present Bright Star for their Spring Musical this year. Named the New York Times Critic’s Pick and nominated for Five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Bright Star is the sweeping tale of pain, redemption, forgiveness and joy in the human spirit. Set in the mountains of North Carolina with a sweeping score by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, it delivers a stunning story of love and loss that will bring you to tears while shouting for joy that the “sun is going to shine again”. Bright Star has the heart that we all want and the message that we all need. Straight off of Broadway, York Drama is ecstatic to be granted the rights to perform this incredible piece.  Show dates are April 11-14. Tickets for this show will be available in early March.

Be sure to mark your calendars now!
