Books to Improve Your ACT Reading Score

Here are some texts that will improve your ACT score.  Some of them are difficult -- but if you want to excel, you have to challenge yourself as a reader.  Twilight won't cut it.

(1) The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien

(2) To The Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf

(3) Lucky Jim by Kingsley Amis

(4) A Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

(5) Consider the Lobster & Other Essays by David Foster Wallace

(6) Chaos: Making A New Science by James Gleick

(7) A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking

(8) In Cold Blood by Truman Capote (taught in 11 AP)

(9) Relativity: The Special and General Theory by Albert Einstein

(10) On Writing by Stephen King

“No matter how busy you may think you are, you must find time for reading, or surrender yourself to self-chosen ignorance.” — Confucius

“If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot.” ― Stephen King
