Grades 11-12 / 1 Semester Course – 1.0 credit

This course explores the history of women’s experience in American society. The course is taught thematically with topics ranging from, but not limited to, politics, labor, reproductive rights, military, education, sport and media/image. Women’s Studies offer a serious examination of the women’s America from the women’s perspective. Additional goals include the enhancement of the women’s sense of self, the elimination of sexism, appreciation for women centered values, a deepening awareness of the effects of gender for both sexes, and an increased respect among women and between women and men.

Rationale: The history of our country has been a struggle to live up to the ideals proposed in the Declaration of Independence. By studying how one group of people in the United States have fought for freedom, rights and equality.
