York Community High School

STEM Awareness & Promotion Event

400 York Physics students attended the International Manufacturing Technology Show at McCormick Place on September 17th, 2016.  It was hands-on and immersive and HUGE!  We only nicked the tip of the iceberg of exhibitors.  Thanks to all the Science teachers who attended and to the York Administration for making it possible.  Check out the pics below and the video snippets on our Facebook page to get a flavor of the show.

Thanks to all involved for participating in the 2014 SmartForce Summit Physics Field Trip!

Planning for this STEM event began more than a year ago with Academic Boosters members and York teachers and staff. The result was a successful field trip to the International Manufacturing Technology Show at McCormick place on September 11, 2014, for 375 York Physics students (regular, honors, AP and Principles of Physics) and 33 chaperones (parents, administrators, physics teachers and department chairs) on 9 buses.

The show covered all 4 buildings on many levels. Innovative technologies were demonstrated and students learned about different STEM jobs and what degrees are needed to get those jobs. Many exhibitors gave away hats, t-shirts, pens, etc … which the students appreciated! The IMTS will return to McCormick place in 2016.

For questions - or if you would be willing to help out with future STEM events -please contact the Academic Booster STEM chair, Andriani Siavelis.
